Choose Your Colour

Finding out what your go-to color palette is, is helpful when you wish to create a coherent wardrobe collection.

To be able to create many different coherent looks, it's best to focus on a wardrobe consisting of  approximately 6 to 9 colours maximum. This way, you'll have many items to mix & match and colours that complement each other. Also, you'll avoid having to overthink on what to wear on a daily base.

The first question to rise is, what are my go to colours? Personally, I love to wear white or black tops, blue jeans and brown or black boots. Yes, a very basic colour palette, but one that looks good no matter what season and never goes out of style. A few other colours I like to wear are (dark) green mostly worn in winter and pink items, that are worn in summer.

So, if I know that I mostly wear black, blue, white and brown. It makes sense, that when I am looking for lasting pieces I will choose one of these colours. For example, a black biker jacket is something I will be able and willing to wear for a long time. Buying an orange biker jacket for summer, will be worn when bought, but chances are next year I will not feel like wearing it next year. As orange, is not my go-to colour. Which is fine, but if I'm looking for an investment it might not be the best choice.

Choosing a colour that's mainly represented in my wardrobe such as black, brown or blue. In time, it will show to be a lasting and therefor more sustainable choice.
If you have a close look at your wardrobe, what colours are dominating and what colours do you feel more comfortabel to wear on a daily base?

Although the style or type of coat or shoe may change, the colours will most likely remain the same throughout the years. fall and winter seasons returning colours in stores are mostly different tones of brown, emerald green, Burgundy, dark blue, dark grey and black. Prints are mostly paisley, animal print, lots of brown leopard, floral and check. Types of fabric are tweed, velvet, leather and (faux)fur.

Bright colours such as neon or silver and gold are fun colours and light up any closet, but you have to ask yourself how much have you worn them and on what occasions? Also, do you think you will be wearing it next season or next year? Not counting your New Years sparkly dress, cause that's just New Year ;)

The same goes for the style of clothing. Classic choices that have been around for decades, are proof that certain items never go out of style. Such as a classic white blouse, a pair of (vintage) Levi's 501, ankle boots and the trench or cloak coat just to name a few.
The key is, to choose the color that's right for you!
I have picked a few of this fall/winter favourite looks, that are classic and timeless. Enjoy and have a beautiful autumn day. Don't forget to comment, like or share your go-to colours for fall/winter :)
