Exhibition Time

Yesterday, my heart skipped a little beat. Not just because it was a beautiful warm Sunday morning in October.
Or, because my dear bf was about to start with the design of my workspace closet, which definitely is turning out to be amazing, but because there's a new spectacular Exhibition in town.

What To See
A retrospective fashion exhibition at Rotterdam's Kunsthal Museum by one of the most iconic designer. He has graced catwalks, video's and theatres for over fifty years with rebellious and extravagant creations. Yass, I am talking about no one other then Thierry Mugler!

Some of you now are feeling pure joy, while others may be saying.. Uhh, who??

Well, for those who are not familiar with the name and brand. Thierry Mugler, born 1948, is an French artist, couturier, director, photographer and perfumer. Who rose to fame with his eponymous label in the 1980s. So, even if you are not a fashionista, you may recognise his creative work in one of his many projects through the decades.

To name a few, costumes for Lady Macbeth theatre production of 1985, his blue star shaped perfume bottles found all over the world in almost every mid to high end perfume store. His iconic 'wet couture' latex corset dress worn by Kim K. at the Met Gala 2019. Exuding eroticism with his daring costumes for Cirque du Soleil's Las Vegas show 'Zumanity'. The beauty of his creations immortalised through the art of photography by the artist himself as well as some of the most celebrated photographers such as Helmut Newton, David Lachapelle or Guy Bourdin and last but not least known for his directors skills. If you are a nineties baby just like me, chances are you were in awe when you first laid eyes on the fun, but über sexy video of George Michael 'Too Funky'. Where he designed and created all the costumes for the models.

His designs are inspired by science-fiction, Hollywood glam, exotic creatures, eroticism, models turned into powerful dominatrixes in places where imagination and dreams came together. This multi media exhibition showcases over a hundred and fifty retrospective creations from Avantgarde prêt-a-porté to haute couture collections, created between 1977 and 2014.

What To Expect
There are never before seen costumes and accessories, lots of leather, latex and rubber, some very famous creations worn by Dianna Ross and the Top Models of the nineties, such as Naomi Campell, Kate Moss and Linda Evangelista. Lot's of intriguing and provocative photography, videos and clips that will provoke many emotions. The possibility to see each design up close and take note of the amount of detailed craftsmanship that went into production, making each piece a work of art. From sketch to creation, from costume to couture dress.
